30 Days One Piece Challenge: Day 16
Day 16 - Favorite Admiral?
Interesting fact; while English translation (at least the fan translations we read from the net) uses Admiral as a rank of Aokiji, Akainu, and Kizaru, the Finnish translation uses Rear Admiral [in finnish: kontra-amiraali] for them. I guess that the translations uses always the ranks of the local navy, or something like that? Anyways, let’s get to the business.
I guess that in this question they are asking my favorite out of all the marines that have Admiral in their rank? Counting Fleet Admirals, Vice Admirals and Rear Admirals too, right? Well that’s what I’m going to assume, because choosing just from three would be boring.

Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp
Grandfather of Luffy, the hero of marines himself: “Garp the Fist”. This guy is just so awesome.
First we saw him just as an random Vice Admiral with a dog mask (I wonder why he stopped wearing it) in a mini series of Cobby and Helmeppo. At the time no one could guess the importance of this character. Just some kind of idiot who sleeps while taking the custody of a dangerous criminal. Yeah, fucking cool idiot I’d say. He’s just like “I’m so awesome that I don’t even have to stay up while doing my job”, of course we all know how that ended up…
Then when he comes to the main story at Water Seven he’s the most awesome grandpa ever. Selfish, violent, manly, loving, and idiotic. Like Luffy. A free soul, like Aokiji said back in the Long Ring Long Land.
I especially love the scenes at Marineford and Fuusha where he sits next to Ace, fights Luffy, gets angry at Akainu, and gets beaten up by Dadan. Those scenes showed so well how hard it is to be enemies with your own grandchildren, and how hard it is to decide which path to take; whether you should do your duty as a grandfather or as a soldier.
Also the fun scenes, like in the Water Seven when he broke the wall just to be FUCKING AWESOME and scenes with Sengoku, when he laughs at stuff Luffy has done, and the thing with new kind of tea he had found. God I love that old man.

This picture of him as a child is also cool, as it shows how Garp, like Luffy, is an adventurous guy with an extreme childhood including treasure hunting and beating the shit out of terrible beasts like tigers. This shows that adventure isn’t only for pirates, but a soldier can have freedom too to a point.
And that’s why he is my favorite admiral or something like that. I hope we see him again in the future.
